HR Policies and Procedures North East. Every employer should have up to date, compliant HR policies and procedures. Policies and procedures are your basic HR framework communicating how you will respond to certain issues and how you expect the employee to respond.
These HR policies can be part of your employee handbook or a separate policies and procedures manual.
North East Businesses: What HR policies and procedures should I have?
The policies and procedures all North East employers should have include:
- Disciplinary Policy and Procedure
- Grievance Policy and Procedure
- Sickness Absence Policy and Procedure
- Performance Management Training and Development Policy and Procedure
- Bullying and Harassment Policy
- Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Policy and Procedure
- Maternity Policy and Procedure
- Paternity Policy and Procedure
- Shared Parental Leave Policy and Procedure
Policies and Procedures – contractual or not contractual?
Policies and procedures can be either contractual or non contractual, however you need to specify this in both your employment contracts and within each policy. If policies are contractual, they are easier to enforce but harder to change without consultation.
Should Policies and Procedures be included in the handbook?
It’s up to you. Personally, I like one pdf document containing everything my clients and their employees need to know that is a searchable point of reference. However, you could have a separate policies and procedures manual.
What else do I need to consider?
Your policies and procedures should be regularly reviewed in line with employment law changes to ensure compliance. Any updates need to be communicated widely, and more complex policies and procedures may require further training.
