Communication in Care – Building Trust Through Communication

Effective communication is at the heart of safe, high-quality care. This course gives care staff the knowledge and practical skills they need to communicate clearly, compassionately, and professionally with residents, families, colleagues, and external professionals.

Through real-world examples, role-play scenarios, and reflection, learners will discover how to:

  • Build trust and rapport with residents.

  • Overcome barriers such as hearing loss, dementia, or language differences.

  • Use active listening and non-verbal skills to connect more deeply.

  • Adapt communication to individual needs and cultural backgrounds.

  • Handle conflict calmly and give constructive feedback.

  • Work effectively with families, GPs, and other professionals.

  • Maintain professional boundaries and clear written records.

By the end of the module, staff will understand how every word, gesture, and note contributes to dignity, safety, and compliance with CQC standards.
